Halliwells in
Malawi
July 2010
Dear
Friends,
We
hope that you are enjoying a beautiful summer of warmth, family and
friends.
Malawi
is now in the winter season and we are enjoying some cooler weather!
As
many of you heard, we had a fire at the church in May and the damage
was extensive. We were
officiating a wedding in another location at the time so we
literally went from the altar to the fire!
Black smoke was flooding out of the windows and we feared the
worst. Glen had to put
on an oxygen mask and take a flash light to lead the fire team to
where the fire originated. It
was an electrical fault in the office area so all of our office
equipment was destroyed. There
was much water damage as the firemen blasted water into the
sanctuary before we arrived and could show them where the fire was
likely coming from. It
took a lot of hard work and cooperation from many people in the
congregation but we were back in our church again within three
weeks. It was such a sad
sight on the day 0f the fire as the street kids lined up outside the
premises and watched the smoke billow out of the windows.
City
Pentecostal
Church
is their sanctuary and they were very pleased when their Sunday
School resumed in June.
Not
long after the fire, Kerry came down with pneumonia which set us
back for a few weeks again! Sometimes
you feel that you are walking through a valley and May and June
seemed to be just that. We
thank God that He is always with us even in the valleys and is ready
to lead us up the next mountain again.
We
are very thankful that the Fountain of Life ministry has now
branched out into the local government schools.
Our representatives go into the schools and speak with the
girls about rape and the issues surrounding this terrible tragedy.
Many girls are opening up and receiving the care and counsel
that they need. We are
also at the main hospital once a week helping with the cases that
come in. Please continue
to pray for this vital ministry.
The
job skills training centre that is called “Samaritan’s Trust”
is also going forward. We
now have a volunteer who works in the morning teaching
sewing/tailoring and we also have a young man teaching guitar
building to the street kids. It
is a wonderful opportunity for the street kids to learn a trade.
Thank
you again for remembering us every month.
Your prayers are vital to helping us through our valleys!
With
Love,
Glen
and Kerry Halliwell
