Halliwells in Malawi
July 2009

Dear Friends,

Thank you all for praying for the Malawian Presidential and Parliamentary Elections!  They were an undeniable success and a model for the rest of Africa .  President Bingu wa Mutharika remains Malawi ’s president and the whole country rejoiced.  We are so pleased that Malawi can look forward to the next 5 years of peace and growth.

Thank you also for praying to Vasco Sylvester, one of the street boys from Blantyre , who went to Chicago for heart surgery.  His surgery was a complete success and his once enlarged heart is already humming nicely along in his little body.  He is gaining strength everyday.  He will remain in America for the next few months for follow-up tests and recovery.  You can continue to follow his story at www.vascosheart.blogspot.com .

One African experience that is hard to evade is bites from little crawling and flying creatures.  Kerry experienced this firsthand this month when she woke up with a small bite on her arm that quickly spread and infected the lymph nodes.  The wound grew alarmingly big and she was put on a strong dose of antibiotics.  The likely culprit was the violin spider.  Kerry recently had an operation that removed the dead tissue and is now recovering at home.  Please pray that she makes a full recovery.

Our final prayer request is an important one.  We are so thankful to the churches and individuals that have faithfully supported our family over the years.  We have to admit that the Global Economic Crisis has affected everyone in some way and our family is no exception.  We have made changes in our missions’ budget to cut back as much as possible but we have still fallen into debt in 2009.  We are asking if the Lord lays it upon your heart to help us financially in any way, please send any donations to the PAOC International Office in our name.  It will go toward keeping our family on the field.  If you are unable to help financially, please pray that the Lord will provide for all our needs.  We don’t feel that our time here is finished and with the Lord’s help, we pray we can continue to minister in Malawi .

 With Love,

 Glen and Kerry Halliwell
